Christmas 2005

Yesterday, Christmas morning, I woke up to the melodious beating of the kulintang. It's been a long time since I have heard such skillful playing of the instrument, and it playing just right outside of the house. I went out to the balcony to investigate. My husband took his camera. We thought maybe there was some kind of public dancing outside but all we could see was a truck load of people. We could hardly even see what's inside. The truck was fueling at the neighboring gasoline station and seemingly, it was going home from some kind of party. It was also carrying long bamboo poles used in weddings and other festivities. Because of the long queue in the fueling station, the truck lingered for sometimes and the music played on. I was elated, like being caroled on a Christmas morning and wonderfully ethnic and  colorfully traditional. Merry Christmas!
